Anza-Borrego Desert

For years I’ve heard of this amazing location for camping, off-roading and everything with dust and the outdoors involved. Now living in Los Angeles full-time, we finally took advantage of how close we are to these incredible deserts and decided to spend a night somewhere along Fish Creek while checking out all of the off shoots the trail had to offer.

Still having to pinch myself out of my PNW-awe of what desert camping and off-roading is, my favorite stop of this trip was in Sandstone Canyon. The trail is very tight in a couple of spots - giving you literal inches on either side of the canyon wall and big boulders. Being an out and back trail and quite popular, we didn’t stay long but had a lot of fun while inside.

After spending a couple hours on the trail admiring the rocks and various built out rigs, we switched in to camp spot mode and a place to settle for the rest of the evening. Down a wash we were able to find a quite, out of the way location nestled up against a tall set of rocks and surrounded by beautiful cacti and foliage. The dogs were stoked to be able to run around and we quickly opened everything up to cast some shadows and stay out of the spring heat when needed..

Waking up with a view is always rewarding no matter where you are. Looking directly up the wash, we were able to watch the sun fall down the canyon walls and begin to warm up the morning. After a slow and lazy morning, we packed up and begin to head out of the trail system, making a few stops by the massive walls in the beginning of the trail.
